Uncooked, unconverted rice?

I've got some chicken thighs and veggies in the crock, but I want to add rice to it. I don't have any converted rice. I was thinking I'd just add a cup of uncooked regular long grain rice (and 2 c liquid) to the pot during the last hour of cooking, and turn the crock to high. Will this work, or will I end up with rice crunch n' mush?

TIA!

[edit] ...I tried it, it didn't work; I got crunchy bits and mushy bits. Next time I will add 3-4 cups liquid (2 wasn't enough, even with the liquid already in the crock), and give it an extra half hour to cook. Or I might just cook the rice separately. Perhaps my brand of crock pot just can't do rice. Sadness.

It'll work! I use regular rice and brown rice in my crock all the time. ^_^

Oh, wonderful, thanks for the quick reply. Out of curiosity, do you give the brown rice extra time, or does it cook the same as the white rice?

Actually, I let the brown rice cook all day with the chicken because I don't mind if it gets soft, BUT if you're trying to time it properly the general rule of thumb is that brown rice takes about 20 minutes longer than white.

That'd work fine. Even on Low for an hour it'd work.
I added a cup of uncooked brown rice into a stew I made in the last hour and it cooked up perfect.

Oh, well maybe I will leave it on low, then. Thank you!

I agree, at the end of hours of cooking, it will be plenty hot for that last hour even on low.
